Procedures of Practicum

The practicum program for FEU Roosevelt students at the University of Bengkulu was a well-organized process that involved multiple stages, ensuring a smooth transition into teaching roles in a new cultural and educational environment. The key procedures were as follows:

Selection and Orientation:

  • Students from FEU Roosevelt were selected to participate in the practicum program based on set criteria.

  • An orientation session was conducted by Miss Lenni from the University of Bengkulu, with assistance from FEU Roosevelt’s coordinator, Mam Dena. This session covered the program's expectations, cultural insights, and logistical arrangements.

Pre-Departure Event:

  • Before departing the Philippines, participants attended a send-off event. This occasion was combined with the closing ceremony for the Indonesian exchange students who had completed their practicum in the Philippines, creating a meaningful exchange of experiences.

Arrival in Bengkulu:

  • Upon arrival, Miss Lenni welcomed the participants and facilitated their accommodation arrangements, ensuring each student was settled in a house near their assigned school. For me, this was SMA Sint Carolus.

  • We were introduced to the staff at SMA Sint Carolus and met with the Dean at the University of Bengkulu, fostering connections with the local academic community.

Observation and Teaching:

  • The practicum officially began with a period of classroom observation, allowing us to familiarize ourselves with the school environment, teaching methods, and student dynamics.

  • This was followed by a month-long teaching practice under the supervision of coordinating teachers. My mentors, Pak Ibnu and Ibu Nelly, provided guidance and feedback throughout the program, helping me refine my teaching strategies.

Reflection and Reporting:

  • After the program, participants were required to write a blog as a reflective exercise to document their experiences, challenges, and learning outcomes. This served as both a personal and professional evaluation of the practicum journey.
